Essential Oils with Haley Schell

Essential Oils with Haley Schell - Episode 70

Do you believe in the power of essential oils or think they are a bunch of hooplah? I used to think they were ridiculous until my wife, Katie, tried them to help with her migraines and headaches. When I saw how well they worked for her I started to believe in them. Then after doing more research I realized they have been used for thousands of years. And in today’s episode I chat with Essential Oil expert, Haley Schell about them and how you can use them to help you live your life to the max!

When Haley Schell was growing up medication was the solution to everything. She didn’t know anything different, and it carried over into her adult life. Haley was 10 years old when she had her first migraine, at the time she didn’t know that it would be the first of 25 years’ worth of chronic migraines. As she got older, they got worse. When she was around 25 years old, she was at the doctor and said she couldn’t deal with it anymore. The doctor said that there were some medications that could help her and told her to see a neurologist just to make sure there wasn’t something other than hormones causing the migraines. The neurologist didn’t help her at all. When Haley was 32 years old she was on a medication for the migraines, a medication for anxiety, a medication for sleep, and a medication for blood sugar. She began to realize that wasn’t normal. One day at work she began having a panic attack, and one of the people she worked with started helping her rub oils onto her chest and back. Haley began to calm down within two or three minutes, when normally it took hours for her to be able to function again. That’s when she began to really research oils and realized that there was a lot of science backing them up. She began to implement oils into her life, using them along with medication while trying to wean off of the medication. Now using the oils without medication, she has been migraine free for three years.

This story resonates with me for a few different reasons. My wife Katie has been suffering with migraines as well ever since she was a teen. She also tries to use essential oils to help cope with them. Along with that, I was also raised in a household that used medications to treat everything rather than going with a more natural approach like a try to do now. I believe that society is too dependent on medication. Yes, medications are a wonderful thing to have, but I think it’s important to try more natural remedies first, and I’m glad that it’s becoming more popular. Before we jump in further, I want to encourage you to do your own research and make sure it’s something that would be good for you before trying them yourself. There is science backing up essential oils, but I cannot guarantee results. It should also be added that Haley is talking about doTERRA oils specifically.

First, what are essential oils? Essential oils are oils that can help you heal, help you feel better, and help your body to run the best that it can. But there are many different essential oils and various qualities offered. For example, if you go to Walmart and buy Peppermint oil, somewhere on the bottle it will say something like inhale only, or inhale or topical use only, do not ingest. That means that the ingredients in that oil are not entirely pure. It is filled with chemicals and other things that don’t do your body any good. The oils that Haley uses are called doTERRA oils, and those are made with pure, natural ingredients. DoTERRA oils are tested over 50 times to ensure that they are completely pure and safe to put in your body. They post every single result of their tests publicly.

Oils have been used for thousands of years, you can look in a Bible and there are many mentions of different types of oils. All of Haley’s oils are sourced from the country where they grow naturally. Plants are indigenous to certain regions often because there are specific nutrients in the soil there that give them their medicinal qualities. Haley also makes sure to the supplier replenishes the plants that they are taking.

Different types of oils help with many different things. Lavender is the most widely known and used essential oil. It is a natural antihistamine and can be used to take pain away from burns, bumps, bruises, and many other things. One of the first times Haley used it, she had burnt her entire hand from taking a hot pan out of the oven. She was screaming in pain and started pouring lavender on her hand and trying to rub it in. Within forty-five seconds the pain was gone, there was no blister, and her hand wasn’t even red. Lavender also helps with relaxation. One of Haley’s other top essential oils is lemon. The essential oil from lemons actually comes from the peel. Those essential oils are great for cleaning and cleansing. It can clean all of the things you don’t want in your body and get them out. If you do drink lemon essential oils, make sure that you drink it out of a glass or stainless steel, because it can eats away at plastic cups.

If you are looking for essential oils, some of the key things you should watch out for are things that say topical or inhale only. If you aren’t supposed to ingest it, using it topically will still get it inside your bloodstream. If it says you can ingest it, there’s a good chance it is better and safer for you. You should also look at research, if you find a company that doesn’t have any research out, that’s a red flag. Essential oils can really make a difference in your whole life. However, it is also important to make sure you are eating healthy and getting exercise. Oils cannot do all of the work to make you a healthy person.
