Dealing with Holiday Stress

Dealing with Holiday Stress - Episode 50.

The holiday season and all of its magic is here, but with all of that comes a lot of stress. Of course, we see stress throughout the year, but a lot of different stressors come about during the holiday season. Here are a few tips to help you deal with the stress so that you can have an amazing holiday season!

My first tip is simply to breathe. I remember when I was a kid and would get angry, my parents would tell me to just stop and breathe. When you get stressed and feel like you’re about to explode, just stop and turn off that switch. Breathe in calmly and breathe out your anger and frustration. This helps get rid of the physical aspects of stress, like a racing heart, but it can also help you calm your mind. Focus on your breath and take slow deep breaths in and out. Then, when you are calmer you will be able to to think of ways to help you either get away from the stress or solve the issue at hand.

Another tip is just to avoid things and people that you know make you stressed.(if possible) Let’s say you are invited to a dinner at your aunt’s house, and your aunt always makes you extremely mad, don’t go! If you absolutely have to go, just do your best to avoid that one person that makes you upset. You can also look for the positives in the situation. Maybe at the dinner you get to see your brother who you only see a few times a year. Think of the positives instead of focusing on the negatives.

A third way to deal with stress is to think of the things that you are grateful for. If you know me at all you know I am very big on gratitude’s. Why? Because they really can change your life and have changed mine! Gratitude’s can change a person from being negative all the time, into being positive. Just write down or think of a few things that you are grateful for every single day. The more you think of the things you are grateful for, the more you will see. It won’t happen immediately, but if you keep doing it day after day you will see amazing positive effects.

The fourth tip is be present. Be fully in the present. Don’t think of the past or the future. Focus on what is going on around you instead of worrying about things that will or have happened. Be fully into whatever you are doing and experiencing in the present. Don’t play around on your phone or worry about other things in the past or the future. Focus on all of the good things surrounding you in the present.

One last tip is to share your energy and love with other people. You can do this by inviting people to do things, or jumping in and joining them on whatever they’re doing. Give your time and energy to help and have fun with other people. This will bring a positive energy to the group and allow the positivity to spread. By doing this, it allows you to make the most out of the season.

Know that you deserve to have an amazing holiday season. If in the past you’ve noticed that stress outweighs the amazing and magical moments, try out some of these tips. Use them to turn the holidays around for you. Make it a great holiday season! Every day for you should be amazing, even around the holidays when stress keeps snowballing upon itself. Just stay calm and breathe and use these tips.
