5 Ways to Stay Positive

5 Ways to Stay Positive

There is so much negativity in this world. It is time to fight against the negativity and be a beacon of light and positivity. Studies from the Mayo Clinic show that being positive lowers your chances of being depressed, offers a greater resistance to the common cold, lowers your levels of stress, increases your overall well being, and can even help you lead a longer life. These are just some of the things that studies have proven that being positive can do. In this episode I will share with you five different ways to help you stay positive.

The first thing you can do to help you stay positive is ask yourself what you are grateful for. I say the things that I’m grateful for every day after I wake up. It’s part of my daily JAGER’s routine. (You can learn more about that in my book Chase Your Passions HERE) I brush my teeth while thinking about what I’m grateful for and then I write it down in my journal. The things that you’re thankful for don’t have to be big. You can write down anything from the cup of coffee in your hand, to having an amazing wife or family. Personally, I try my best to write down different things each day. If you write the same things each time, they could lose their meaning because it can become routine. So mix it up and write different things every day and only repeat them once a week or so. Writing them down is very helpful for two reasons. One, because it will make it easier to track what you are already grateful for and because it helps sink them into your heart and soul.

A second way to stay positive is to list the amazing things that you have in your life or things have happened to you. List the amazing moments and things that you’ve been through or have done. Look back on your life and remember all of the amazing memories. The memories don’t have to be big. Every little amazing memory counts and thinking back on them will remind you of all the happy times you’ve had. The things you list can be recent or they can be from twenty years ago or when you were a kid. There are so many amazing things that have happened in everyone’s life and it is very important to remember and think about them. Personally, I do this at the end of every day. I reflect on the good things that have happened in the day. One positive of doing your reflection at the end of the day is it will prime your brain with positivity so when you wake up, you’ll already be ready to have a great day.

Having great friends and a positive support system is the third way to stay positive. Surround yourself with amazing people that will lift you up and encourage you. If you take an honest look at your friends and acquaintances, do they lift you up? Are they positive or negative? Be careful because it’s easy to have friends that will be negative and drag you down with them, but that isn’t good for you. You deserve someone who will encourage you and support you and will help you to do all of the things you want to do. Remember we are the average of the 5 people we spend the most time around. Are your top 5 helping you be positive and being your best self?

The fourth way to stay positive is to look for the positive things within tough situations. Bad things happen to everyone but it’s very important to try and find the good things that can happen or have come from it. If you allow yourself to only see the bad things, you’ll drag yourself down with the negativity. That’s not to say that you should ignore the negatives, especially not when somebody comes to you for help with something bad that happened to them. You need to remain empathetic instead of just saying everything is ok and help them see the positives. You also can’t just pretend bad things don’t exist because, well, they do. It’s important to acknowledge the bad but also look for and see the good.

A final way to stay positive is to find solutions. Focus on the solutions to problems rather than just the problems themselves. Many times, people just talk about all of the problems that exist in the world but if you want to stay positive then focus on the ways to solve the problems. If you try to find solutions to the problems, you’ll grow as a person and help the world around you. You’ll also have a mindset and will be improving things rather than just listing the things that are bad. Problems just bring you down. Solutions lift you back up.
